G. Alfred Kennedy, Brussels, Belgium – 1985

 

Earlier in his academic life, he pursued graduate studies and assisted in establishing The Federal City College in Washington, D.C., the predecessor institution to the current University of the District of Columbia.

He is a graduate of the University of Oregon, and holds two Masters Degrees from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C

George served in the State Department as a Senior Foreign Service officer and Federal Executive for thirty five years.  Highlights of his Foreign Service career were to have served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and a Senior Advisor to Ronald H. Brown, the first African American Secretary of Commerce. His Foreign Service career took him to assignments in seven countries, travel in a dozen others, and culminated in his appointment as the U.S. Consul General in Toronto.

After his career with the State Department, his cultural and business interests took him to the Peoples Republic of China, and a life-altering trip to Kampala, Uganda.

As a life-long student of politics, George became a member of an advisory team to several elected officials.  He and a former colleague formed an international consultancy to advise the executives of small-to-medium size enterprises on how to exploit opportunities in emerging overseas markets.

Today, George is actively engaged in the civic life of his community in Marana, Arizona through the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona in Tucson, the Marana Chamber of Commerce, and Marana town government. He also served as a Board Member of The United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona.
