Description

Democracy At The Brink is the authors’ spin on current events in the United States following the 2020 presidential election.  In our alternative universe, the country inherited by the new Democratic president takes a different course.  African American Alfred Turner faces a seriously divided nation, split along racial and economic lines; the rising threat of domestic terrorism; and the waning of the United States’ international influence as China, Iran, and Russia vie for world dominance.

Turner’s United States is anything but, and so are its relationships abroad – exactly as the contemporary situation.  Several advantages, however, help the new President negotiate positive outcomes, but they come at a very heavy price.  Turner’s savvy appointments to his administration reflect the actual diversity of the country and put people of color, many remarkable women, in leadership positions.  The cultural shift is tectonic in its level of violence, demonstrating realistically the logical outcomes of the current social trajectory.
